Nick Miller booked a place in the Olympic hammer finals and insists there's more to come when he throws for medals on Wednesday.

The Carlisle star reached the final at the 2019 World Championships, finishing tenth, and has now repeated the trick on the only bigger stage that exists in his sport.

Miller fouled with his first and third throws but needed only one legal throw, 76.93 in the second round, to advance to the final at his second Games.

"I really prefer to compete in the evening, so I found the morning hard, but I did what I needed to do and I've made the final," he said.

"The second-round throw was a decent distance and what I needed on the board.

"Third in qualifying isn’t a bad place to finish but I know I have more to give.

"I’m going to go back to the village and begin my preparations for the final."

Miller's 76.93 throw was the sixth best in the field with Pole Wojciech Nowicki hurling the implement further than any other, with 79.78.

With the qualification standard in the bag, Miller received a medical exemption from British Athletics to miss June's Olympic Trials.

Reaching the final was a fine effort particularly with the Cumbrian only having competed twice this year, both in the USA in late May and early July.

It was particularly satisfying given Miller finished 13th in qualifying at Rio 2016, missing the medal stand-off by a whisker on Games debut.
