A SOMERSET man asked for the help of some very special friends when he decided to propose to his girlfriend last week.

Lewis White, 24, has been dating Emily Francis, 20, since the first lockdown in March 2020.

The pair soon met up for socially distanced walks, and Emily decided to move in with Lewis on his family farm in Alford, near Castle Cary.

In August last year, the couple bought four calves together - and they have been 'besotted' with them ever since.

"They are like our dogs," said Emily, who has lived in Castle Cary since she was little.

"The cows - Karen, Curly Sue, Betty and Boop - are just so friendly.

"I will walk past the field and as soon as I sit down, they come over to come over and lay their heads in my lap."

And so Lewis decided to ask the animals for help during his proposal.

He wrote 'will you' on the side of one cow in blue paint, and 'marry me' on the other, while getting down on one knee behind the animals.

"He woke me up at 6.30am on my only day off in the week and he said you need to come to the calves - I was worried something was wrong," added Emily.

"I ran out in my pyjamas and I saw what was written on the cows and he got down on one knee.

"It is just so us. For me and Lewis, the proposal is the only way I could have imagined him doing it - we have been besotted with the cows since we got them.

"Lewis said that was the only idea he had in his head, so he wanted to make it perfect.

"He said he wouldn’t have wanted to do it any other way."

Lewis's mum gave him her ring, and so he took out the diamonds and placed them in a white gold band for Emily.

"The ring is beautiful - it is white gold and it has seven diamonds," Emily said.

The pair are now planning to move into their own cottage soon, and are hoping to get married in around two years - with the cows being part of their special day of course.
