WHEN one of the world's top footballers became available, Taunton Town moved quickly to inform fans the club wouldn't be signing him.
Lionel Messi is parting company with Barcelona for financial reasons.
The Argentinian superstar had been prepared to take a 50 per cent cut in his wages to stay.
But due to La Liga financial rules, the Catalan club is unable to keep him on their books.
To quash any speculation that Messi might be heading to Wordsworth Drive to line up for The Peacocks, the Taunton club took to Twitter.
The message was: "Leo Messi will not be joining for the 2021/22 season."
The club has not revealed whether they may launch a bid for Messi in the future.
