A CONCERT at Wellington Arts Centre raised £396.07 for the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) charity to fund equipment for the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Musgrove Park Hospital, in Taunton.

John Walker and friends performed songs from the West End and Broadway at the Heavenly Musicals event, which marked the re-opening of the centre.

The total included £100 from Queenie Hutchins and friends from Ivy House, Wellington, who were unable to attend.

Other donations to SURE were £440 from Judith Heaphy of Minehead, from plant sales; £37.55 from Kathy and Joe Bowers, of Easton; £17.55 from Mrs Sellick, of Bridgwater; and an anonymous donation of £2.05 in 5ps.

There was £58 from the collection pots at Tesco Express, North Petherton; and £125.42 from Blagdon Retirement Village.

From the Beacon Centre was £40 in 5ps from Joanne and Michael McNulty and family from Chard; £29.15 mostly in 5ps from Rich and Chris Turner; and £124.45 in 5ps from the Beacon Centre.

The total donated last week was £1207.24, meaning the overall total raised for SURE since it linked up with the County Gazette now stands at £997,991.85.
