A TAUNTON man struck by an illness that left him unable to stand without pain is off on a marathon walk across a desert.

Peter Wilson will trek 26 miles across the plains of the Sahara in Morocco in October to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society

The impressive feat is part of an ongoing fundraising effort for the charity, which is close to Peter’s heart.

His sponsorship will contribute towards much-needed research and care for people living with dementia.

Although a significant challenge in its own right, the trek will also be a huge step for Peter on his path to recovery following an illness last year.

After being hit by an undiagnosed illness in early 2020 that left him unable to walk, stand, or sit without considerable pain and difficulty until April this year, his Sahara will adventure will be a heroic challenge.

Having already made significant improvements, and with the continued support of his family, friends, doctors, and work colleagues at everyLIFE Technologies, Peter is eager to succeed in this incredible, once in a lifetime experience.

He said: "I’ll be walking to raise much-needed funds for the amazing work of the Alzheimer’s Society, and in memory of my brother Jonathan and my Dad who passed last year.

"After my recent medical history, the trek will be a significant challenge, though given my love for Islamic culture and the world of Sufism in particular, a visit to the beautiful country of Morocco will be an experience in itself.”

Duncan Campbell, Director at everyLIFE Technologies, a digital care management provider, said: "We are all extremely proud of Peter for setting this immense challenge for himself.

"Testament to his strong character, this trek comes after a difficult illness, but we look forward to seeing him succeed.

"everyLIFE Technologies commend the Alzheimer’s Society for their invaluable work, and we wish Peter the best of luck in this important fundraising endeavour.”
