THE finalists of ITV2’s hit reality show Love Island have been confirmed – but Somerset water engineer Jake Cornish is not among them after leaving the show with ex-girlfriend Liberty Poole.

After two months in the Majorca villa, four couples are in with a chance of taking home the £50,000 prize: Millie and Liam, Chloe and Toby, Faye and Teddy, and Kaz and Tyler.

Jake 24, and Liberty, 21, left the villa in Friday night’s episode.

After breaking up in Thursday's episode, Jake and Liberty discussed their relationship while on their final date on a luxury boat.

Liberty told Jake: “Being here with my friends and seeing them is great.

"I am literally so happy for every single one of them that they have been able to find someone for them. But I am going to leave today anyway because that is the right choice for me."

Jake responded: "I feel exactly the same. I am not going to let you walk out on your own. It is as simple as that. I think the best thing is that we end on good terms and be friends and say we tried."

Their fellow islanders were shocked when ‘Jiberty’ told them about their decision to leave.

After gathering the other couples around the fire pit, Liberty said: “We just both came to the conclusion obviously that at this moment in time, it’s best for us to go our separate ways and we’re going to leave the villa.

“We just obviously don’t want to be here and take up a place when obviously you guys are all strong couples, and that was us at one point, but that’s not us anymore.”

On Love Island: Aftersun last night, Jake reflected on the start of their relationship, telling host Laura Whitmore: “It was mint, you couldn’t fault it, the first three weeks everything was fun, it was wicked, there is not much more to say, it was good craic.”

Liberty added: “As soon as I met Jake we just instantly clicked, and it went from strength to strength in the first few weeks.

“I think we were in our honeymoon phase, and I wouldn’t change anything because it’s worked out the way it’s meant to.

“Everything was perfect, but you have to overcome challenges and unfortunately we weren’t able to.

“We are definitely always going to be friends, we have the same banter, and we get on really well but when it comes to a relationship, we just communicated differently and that is why it ended the way it did.”
