A SOMERSET sculptor is selling editions of recent bronzes in a bid to raise £7,000 for a mental health charity.

Deborah Stevens, who is based in Wellington, is helping the charity Mind in Somerset.

The works are 3-5ft high, on steel-based pedestals and draw on her 40 years’ experience practising complementary medicine.

One set of seven bronzes will feature in the grounds of a private home in Devon from September 10-24, giving people the chance to see them.

“One of my treatments is Chakra balancing – each of the seven Chakras being represented in my sculptures,” said Deborah.

A Chakra is a wheel-like power point of energy in our bodies, according to ancient Eastern thought, and considered to belong to the subtle spiritual part of us.

“They inspired me to do this work, each sculpture representing a Chakra.

“I’ve made them to bring the unseen components of these energy systems into the human-like figures where they are physical, sensual and tactile.

“It will be amazing to cast these in clay and then into bronze and at the same time to support Mind in Somerset which is an extremely worthwhile charity.”

Vicky Poole, Mind in Somerset’s funding manager, said: “We really appreciate Deborah’s generous offer to help us with her sculptures and it’s great that creativity and mental health are being linked in this way.”

For the exhibition, the address is 'Halt Studios', Whitehall, Hemyock, EX15 3UQ.

It will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 6pm on September 11/12, 18/19, 25/26, and private viewings can be arranged on other days.
