STAR of stage and screen Stephen Mulhern has announced he will be performing at Butlin's in Minehead next year.

He has been unveiled by the company as a headline act on various dates over the May half term, summer holidays and October half term.

For him it will be a return to where it all started as he was a Redcoat at the West Somerset seaside camp between 1995 and 1996.

Mulhern is bringing a brand new show to the resort, promising "laughs and excitement in a show filled with surprises, one lines and endless energy".

He said: "I am delighted to be returning to Butlin’s.

"It’s where my career started and I’ll be doing what I love, entertaining and making people laugh, back on my home stage.

"This show is a really exciting one for me as it’s brand new so I can’t wait to perform in front of the amazing Butlin’s audience next year."

Mike Godolphin, entertainment director at Butlin's, said: “We are thrilled to reveal the amazing line-up for our 2022 breaks.

"We can’t wait to welcome back Stephen Mulhern to the Butlin’s stage, and we know his show will have guests in hysterics.

"With a variety of breaks to choose from, there’s a holiday for everyone and incredible entertainment is guaranteed."

As a child and into his teens, Mulhern and his family holidayed in Butlin's at Minehead.

When he was 16, one of the acts dropped out and he was volunteered by his father to perform a magic show.

It proved a big hit and the teenager was asked if he would like a job as a Redcoat once he turned 18.

He later said the opening was "a dream come true".
