A COUNCIL is holding two important meetings at a golf club - because the authority's debating chamber is too small for social distancing.

Somerset West and Taunton's full council meetings on September 7 and October 5 will take place at Oake Manor Golf Club.

The move comes as SWT switches from virtual to 'live' meetings following the easing of coronavirus rules.

The large conference facilities at Oake Manor have been chosen as the Deane House council chamber is too small to ensure up to 58 councillors and member of the public can social distance.

A range of measures will be in place, with chairs socially distanced, a signed one-way system, sanitising stations, QR posters and sign-in sheets, while face coverings will be required when not seated.

Roaming microphones available for speakers will be sanitised by administrative staff between use.

The meetings will also be live streamed using SWT's Facebook page.

All other council meetings, which are smaller in size, will be held at Deane House.
