ONE of the oldest cars in a Somerset museum's collection will take to the road once more during special events next month.

During the October half term, experts at the Haynes International Motor Museum will wheel out the 1903 Type L Darracq.

"The car will be put through her paces outside the museum before she takes part in the 125th anniversary of the London-Brighton Veteran Car Run," said a museum spokesperson.

"For visitors, it’s a rare opportunity to take photos, see how a 100-year-old car works and meet some of the restoration team who look after her."

The event is weather dependant, they added, and urged people to check himm.co.uk for details nearer the time.

Meanwhile, visitors will also be able to meet model maker David Hayward, whose intricate 1:12 scale models were commissioned by the late John Haynes OBE.

Somerset County Gazette:

"A must see for model-making enthusiasts is a new display of fabulously intricate, 1:12 scale replicas of cars in the collection, commissioned by the late John Haynes OBE," the spokesperson went on.

The models are part of the new exhibition, ‘The Man, the Manuals and the Museum’.

And on Tuesday and Thursday, October 26 and 28, between 10am and 2pm bespoke model maker David Hayward will be on hand to talk all things model making.

"There’s also a brand-new family trail inspired by these models, where visitors can discover both the replicas and their life-sized inspiration," the spokesperson added.

All events are included with museum entry. Visit himm.co.uk for more details and to book tickets.
