A FLAT in a halls of residence has been left severely damaged after a fire broke out on Friday morning.

The flat on the second floor of the five-storey Dunn House student accommodation in Sunderland was left with 75 percent fire damage.

The Tyne & Wear Fire and Rescue Service said the scene was attended by five pumps after the initial call at 11.15am.

Meanwhile, appliances from Marley Park and Farringdon were dispatched to help extinguish the fire by around 11.50am.

The Northern Echo:

A spokesperson for the fire service confirmed there was nobody in the flat at the time of fire and no injuries were reported.

It said that the flat had also suffered 95 percent damage from smoke, but it was believed no other part of the building was affected.

Scenes earlier today showed police, ambulance and fire appliances at the scene as part of North Bridge Street was cordoned off.
