AN introduction to a new era in recycling will soon be landing on doormats across Taunton Deane.

‘Get ready for Recycle More’ leaflets will be delivered from Monday (September 20).

They outline the expanded Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) recycling service which launches at the start of November.

And SWP will be in Taunton and Wellington next week to talk to residents about the new service which is already delivering more than 100 extra tonnes of recycling in Mendip and South Somerset.

Recycle More adds extra items to weekly recycling collections, including plastic pots, tubs and trays.

Households will have a new recycling container - a ‘Bright Blue Bag’ – delivered before the new service starts.

Lots more recycling means much less rubbish, so rubbish bins or sacks will be collected every three weeks instead of two.

The latest phase covers the Taunton Deane geographical area, including Taunton, Wellington and Wiveliscombe. West Somerset and Sedgemoor are scheduled to get the new service together early in 2022.

A Recycle More stand will be in Fore Street, in Taunton, (opposite the former Next store) on Thursday (September 23), from 9am to 2pm, next to the Farmers’ Market.

Staff will be ready to answer questions and provide information about the new service.

The team will also be at the Wellington Street Fair on Saturday, September 25, from 10am to 4pm. Further public events are also planned.

Next week’s leaflet is an introduction to Recycle More. A second leaflet delivered three weeks before launch will give further detail, including a ‘What goes where?’ recycling guide and an individual collection day calendar.

Making full use of weekly collections is key for Recycle More and now is a great time for everyone to make sure they have the containers they need.

They are free and can be ordered quickly and easily, 24/7 from the somersetwaste.gov.uk website using the My Waste Service menu or by calling your local district council.

To help make sure everyone understands what is changing and when, SWP is running out of hours Q&A sessions on its Facebook page @somersetwaste

  • Thursday, September 30, 7-8am;
  • Monday, October 18, 7-8pm;
  • Friday, November 5, 7-8am.

Garden and clinical waste collections will not change with Recycle More.

Extra support is available for anyone with Recycle More concerns. Check the leaflets or visit www.somersetwaste.gov.uk/recycle-more for more information.
