THE stars of the hit show, Vera have confirmed filming for the latest series has finally wrapped up after a "challenging" year due to Covid.

Brenda Blethyn and Kenny Doughty shared an emotional post on social media confirming all the scenes had now been shot after filming for the 11th series began in 2020.

With a selfie of the pair, who play DCI Vera Stanhope and DS Aiden Healy in the ITV show, on the Millenium Bridge, they praised everyone for their involvement in filming.

Blethyn and cast had been recently spotted filming behind Asda in Blyth, on the banks of the Tyne in North Shields, and had been spotted in Tynemouth just days before.

In their emotional post, Doughty said: "And that’s a wrap! Best part of a year filming.

"You’ve seen 2 already. 4 more wonderful eps to be shared. Massive thanks & congratulations to EVERYONE getting these made during COVID.

"It’s been challenging both physically & mentally but we’ve done it! Over & out X."

ITV bosses previously confirmed two feature-length episodes of the new series would air in August and September, with a further four episodes due to be broadcast in 2022.

At the time, theysaid that following the "huge success" of series ten, ITV had welcomed back the return of Vera for an "emotionally compelling" series.

Filming for the show has seen parts of County Durham, Teesside, Tyne & Wear and Northumberland turned into sets for the show.

Notably, Citrone's Cafe in Chester-le-Street was given a starring role in the first episode of the new series after filming took place in October, last year.

The cafe, which is on the Front Street, was rebranded 'Cafe Royal' for the show as Blethyn investigated the death of Jim Tullman.

Addressing filming during lockdown, Blethyn previously said: "The safety of all personnel is always at the forefront of production, and with all the extra Covid precautions in place, we will relish creating and delivering six cracking new episodes."
