FOUR communities in West Somerset have joined forces this week to take part in the National Great British Beach Clean.

The week, run by the Marine Conservation Society, runs from Friday, September 17, until Sunday, September 26.

Hundreds of beach cleans take place across the UK during this week.

On Saturday (September 18), residents in West Somerset helped to clean the beach at Minehead, and carried out a detailed survey of all the different items of litter found on a 100m stretch of the beach.

This survey will then be added to a national database.

On Sunday (September 19), residents again took to the beach to clean, but this time at West Street beach in Watchet.

There will also be a beach clean at Bossington on September 25 and at Dunster beach on September 26.
