A TOWN community centre that has just re-opened is looking to get 30,000 people to donate £1 each to its latest project.
Wiveliscombe Community Centre re-opened on Saturday morning, with town council chairman Cllr Jon Burgess performing the tape cutting ceremony.
The premises had been closed since the first Covid lockdown 18 months ago.
At the time, the trustees had embarked on an ambitious extension and refurbishment programme to provide more hire space and improved facilities.
Chairman Francesca Croft said: "Due to a lot of hard work, we have eventually arrived at a time when we can re-open.
She praised secretary Des Hawkins for project managing the scheme; treasurer Sue Froude for "managing the funding during zero income times and greatly reduced expected funding and greatly increased costs; local builders and contractors; volunteers such as Charlie Froude; and "the forbearance and support of the local community".
There is one major requirement to complete the improvements works - a lift to provide disabled access to the upper hall.
The centre's David Willis said: "The centre is about to embark on a fundraising campaign called ‘Give Us A Lift’, asking social network friends to spread the word so that we can encourage about 30,000 souls to give us just £1 each to give us a lift."
