A RESIDENTIAL care home in Taunton is set to close.

The owners of Churchview, which provides care for adults, including those with a learning disability or mental health issues, plans to sell off the property in St Andrews Road.

The company has applied to Somerset West and Taunton Council for a change of use of the premises from residential care home to residential dwelling.

Mike Ranson, commercial director of owners National Care Group, said: "This property was originally a private domestic dwelling but has been operating as Churchview residential care home for many years and currently has C2 planning as appropriate for that use.

"Following consultation with the individuals supported at the home and local social care commissioners, it has been identified that the property is no longer suitable to meet the needs of the current individuals and new accommodation is being provided for them that is more appropriate to their needs.

"Furthermore it is felt that the property is no longer capable of meeting the expectations of a modern residential care home and will cease trading.

"Following the closure of the home it is our intention to place the property on the market as a domestic dwelling which will bring it in line with the neighbouring properties.

"To this end we are applying for the planning use of the property to be returned to a C3 domestic dwelling use."
