A TAUNTON couple are celebrating 60 years of marriage today (Thursday)

Ann and Michael Trott married in the town's Halcon Baptist Church on October 7, 1961.

They had met six years previously at a square dancing event in Bishop's Hull.

"I was living with my parents in York Road and Michael used to cycle over from his home in Eastwick Road," said Ann, now aged 81.

"We used to go for walks, the pictures two or three times a week or to a coffee shop.

"For the first 18 months after we married, we lived with my parents before we bought our own house in Galmington, where we're still living 58 years on."

Ann worked for several years at the old Van Heusen shirt factory and later had odd jobs for Speedy Sandwich and One Stop, retiring eight years ago.

Michael, 83, worked for the Post Office for 44 years and was in charge of the posties in Taunton, Wellington and Chard.

The couple have two children, Julie and Nicholas, as well as five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

"The time has flown by," said Ann.

"We used to enjoy foreign holidays with the family.

"Michael was captain of the Church Lads' and Church Girls' Brigade at St Michael's Church, Galmington, for 25 years.

"We used to take the children camping every summer, meeting up with a group from Scunthorpe. He organised the activities and I did the cooking.

"We used to enjoy going out for a drive, but we've missed that during the pandemic."

The diamond couple are celebrating at home today with their family and a few friends.
