SOMERSET residents are being invited to a FREE drone show to celebrate Halloween.

Glow in the Park, an event funded by Frome Town Council (FTC) and The Arts Council, will be held on October 30 at the Old Showfield in Frome.

There will be a variety of activities including face painting, lantern making, glow in the dark pumpkins, apple day activities and more.

There will also be a drone show, which is being performed by Celestial, who are based in Frome.

They specialised in aerial storytelling which is performed by hundreds of brightly coloured drones, accompanied by music.

Tony Martin, founder, said: "Thanks to funding from Arts Council England we are thrilled to be able to bring on this show for Frome.

"It’s been a long time in the planning, and we are excited to provide this spectacular show, free of charge, for the people of Frome.

"The display will bring some glow in the dark magic to help commemorate this extremely difficult time."

During the event, 24 trees will be planted to celebrate Frome, its communities and the resilience shown over the past 18 months. At the centre of the trees, there will be an oak tree grown from an acorn by tree enthusiast and author Julian Hight.

This oak tree can be traced back to the historic Selwood oaks that grew in and around Frome.

Representatives from Frome will be invited to plant the other trees alongside the Mayor of Frome, Andy Wrintmore.

"As the nights are drawing in, let’s celebrate this time of year and our community by coming together for this unique, free event," he said.

"From planting commemorative trees representing our town’s resilience in the past 18 months, to a whole host of fun, autumnal activities culminating with a spectacular, never seen before in the Somerset, drone show - it’s the event of the year so far.

"Think fireworks without the scare!"

There will also be contributions from Frome schools as well, including the college, who are being asked to create a design in a special animation workshop delivered by Celestial.

As well as this, there will also be various food stalls at the event.

Frome Rotary will be collecting funds for several charities, including Active and In Touch, The Pod, Fair Frome and Frome's Missing Links.

The event runs from 3.30pm until 6.30pm.
