THE number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose in each of Somerset's districts last week.

West Somerset and Taunton, Sedgemoor, South Somerset, Mendip, and Bath and North East Somerset saw increases in the number of positive coronavirus tests last week compared to the previous seven days. 

12 people died within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test last week in Somerset. 

Across the UK, the number of confirmed cases and deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test increased between Monday, October 11 and Sunday, October 17. 

In the UK last week, 300,081 people had confirmed positive tests for coronavirus – an increase of 15.1% (39,294) from the previous seven days, according to official data from coronavirus.data.gov.uk

45,140 postive coronavirus tests were reported yesterday.  

Between October 11 and yesterday, 852 people died within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test in the UK - an increase of 8.5% (67) from the previous week. 

57 deaths were reported yesterday within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister said today: "We obviously keep very close watch on the latest statistics.

"We always knew the coming months would be challenging.

"What we are seeing is case rates, hospitalisations and deaths still broadly in line with the modelling as set out a few months back now.

"The vaccination programme will continue to be our first line of defence, along with new treatments, testing and public health advice.

"But we will obviously keep a close watch on cases. But it is thanks to our vaccination programme that we are able to substantially break the link between cases, hospitalisations and deaths."

Here are the latest cases, deaths and vaccination statistics from across Somerset. 

Somerset West and Taunton

Between October 11 and October 17, 1,337 people had a confirmed positive coronavirus test in Somerset West and Taunton – an increase of 133.7% compared to the previous seven days.

Yesterday, 236 people had a confirmed positive test result reported. 

Between October 11 and October 17, five deaths were reported within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test in the district. 

In the week before that, one person had died in the region within 28 days of a positive test.

One death within 28 days of a positive test was reported yesterday. 

123,710 people in Somerset West and Taunton had received their first vaccine dose by the end of Saturday, October 16.

At the same time, 116,371 people in the region had received their second dose.

Sedgemoor 

Between October 11 and October 17, 801 people had a confirmed positive test result in Sedgemoor - an increase of 141.3% compared to the previous seven days. 

139 people had a confirmed positive test result reported yesterday.

There were no recorded deaths in Sedgemoor within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported yesterday. 

Between October 11 and October 17, there was one recorded death within 28 days of a positive coronavirus death.

In the seven days before that, there had also been one death within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. 

95,892 people in Sedgemoor had received one dose of a vaccine by the end of October 16.

At the same time, 89,480 people in the region had received a second dose.

South Somerset

In South Somerset, which includes Yeovil, Chard and Somerton, 1,098 people had a confirmed positive test result between October 11 and October 17. 

This marks an increase of 109.5% from the previous week. 

245 people had a confirmed positive test result yesterday.

Between October 11 and October 17, two deaths were recorded within 28 days of a positive test, showing no change from the previous seven days.

There were no deaths recorded within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported yesterday.

In South Somerset, 135,303 people had been given a first dose of a vaccine by the end of October 16.

127,107 people had received a second dose.

Mendip

In Mendip, which includes Wells, Glastonbury, Street and Frome, 953 people had a confirmed positive test result between October 11 and October 17 - an increase of 82.6% from the previous seven days. 

201 confirmed positive tests were reported yesterday.

Between October 11 and October 17, there were three recorded deaths within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus.

In the previous week, there were two recorded deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

No deaths were recorded in Mendip yesterday within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test.

88,794 people had received their first dose of a vaccine by the end of October 16.

82,926 from Mendip had been given a second dose by the same time. 

Bath and North East Somerset

Between October 11 and October 17, 1,682 people had a confirmed positive test result – an increase of 209.2% compared to the previous week. 

335 people had a confirmed positive test result in Bath and North East Somerset yesterday.

Between October 11 and October 17, there was one death in Bath and North East Somerset within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test.

In the previous week, there had also been one death within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test in the district.

No deaths were reported within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test in the region yesterday.

145,093 people from the region received a first dose of a vaccine by the end of October 16.

At the same time, 135,944 people had received their second dose.
