A SOMERSET business has expanded its range of recyclable PPE, by launching disposable aprons made from sugar cane waste.

CARTIM Recyclables in Somerset specialises in the manufacture of products made from Polyair™, a planet-friendly alternative to single use plastics.

The company began by making gowns for hairdressers and barbers, and now they have made aprons too.

Carole Champion, director at CARTIM, said: “We’re thrilled to be launching another sustainable PPE option for those working in the personal care industry, which includes carers, beauticians, hairdressers and barbers, who would like to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on hygiene standards.

"By offering more planet-friendly options we hope that even more businesses will make the switch from single use plastic.

“By moving over to recyclable and carbon neutral products, people running personal care industry organisations are able to increase their sustainability credentials, as well as help save the planet and money and boost hygiene levels, which is vital as we continue to live with Covid.”

CARTIM Recyclables is also looking to expand their products to offer more plastic-free alternatives.

“With even more demand for sustainable PPE since we launched our business in July, it’s great to be helping those who wish to become carbon neutral businesses," added Carole.

“Our aprons and other products meet the extremely high hygiene standards expected from personal care providers and their clients.

"Even though Covid restrictions have lifted, there is still a need in the industry to continue to uphold the highest levels of cleanliness, as we continue to battle with the virus.

"They are also cost effective as they do not need to be washed like traditional fabric aprons, thus saving water, electricity and the expense of potentially planet damaging detergents.

“Our Polyair™ aprons offer high levels of protection without costing the earth."

Made from Polyair™, CARTIM Recyclables products are the only 100% recyclable, carbon neutral material currently available and are PAS2050 carbon neutral certified.

Aprons have neck ties and are 120cm x 120cm to give the wearer adequate protection while seated or standing.

CARTIM Recyclables is the sister company to Needles and Pins UK and Tica Lily Ltd.

Tica Lily is a newly launched business offering household and clothing collections made from 100 per cent natural linen.
