SUSPECTED cannabis plants were found at the scene of a fire in Wellington yesterday (October 21).

Avon and Somerset Police said the fire is 'not believed to be suspicious' but have said enquiries into the suspected cannabis growth are ongoing.

Residents on North Street in Wellington called Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service around 11.15pm on October 20.

Seven fire engines and multiple specialist support vehicles attended the blaze at the three storey property.

Avon and Somerset Police has said they were called by the fire service at 12.15am on October 21.

"They were calling to make us aware of an incident they were dealing with in Wellington," said a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police.

"Firefighters on the scene of a fire at a residential address in North Street told us that in a search of the property they had discovered a number of suspected cannabis plants.

"Enquiries into the suspected cannabis growth are ongoing and officers remain at the scene.

"Anyone with information that could help our enquiries is asked to call 101 and give reference number 5221246417."

There were no casualties during the incident, and the fire caused 25 per cent fire damage and 100 per cent smoke damage to the property.
