THE Cooper Associates Foundation is funding a charity to find, train and support six volunteers to mentor six of the 47 children needing its support in the Taunton area.
Somerset cricket captain Tom Abell, a trustee of the foundation, presented a cheque for £12,000 to PROMISEworks chairman Robert Peto and the charity's Taunton case holder Christell Charles
Volunteers would spend a few hours a week to make a difference to less fortunate families and young people in and around the county town.
Mr Peto said: "PROMISEworks is excited to receive this generous donation from Cooper Associates Foundation which will allow us to help six more young people over a minimum two-year period to build a life that works for each of them."
Victoria Tremear, trustee of The Cooper Associates Foundation, said: “PROMISEworks is doing amazing work within our local communities, providing essential support to vulnerable young people through one-to-one mentoring.
"We are thrilled that our donation will be used to train the ‘Cooper’s Cohort’ of six mentors, so they are equipped to support the young people they are working with.”
Training for the volunteers is scheduled for January/February - e-mail Christell.charles@promiseworks.org.uk if you are intersted in further details.
