A MAN from Chard has been ordered to pay more than £400 after exceeding a 40mph speed limit on a road in Devon.

Brian Simons, of Boden Street, was caught driving at a speed exceeding the legal limit in a Vauxhall Vectra in Rydon Lane, Exeter, on Saturday, February 27.

Simons, 52, pleaded guilty to the offence at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court on October 23.

He was fined £309.

He must also pay a £34 surcharge to fund victim services and costs of £90.

Simons has until Saturday, November 20 to pay a total of £433.

He was also handed six penalty points.

Another man from Yeovil has been ordered to pay nearly £200. 

Daniel Bovey, of Monmouth Road, failed to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a Ford car when he was required to at Dorchester Police Station on Saturday, May 15.

Bovey, 35, pleaded guilty to the offence at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on October 22.

He was fined £120 and ordered to pay a £34 surcharge and costs of £45 – giving him a total of £199 to pay by Friday, November 19.  

The costs were reduced because of the defendant’s means.

Bovey's driving record has been endorsed with six points.
