ACTION is being taken in Milverton to tackle issues with vehicles speeding through the village.

The parish council is buying two Illuminated Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) to be used across six sites in Milverton and Preston Bowyer.

The council is looking for volunteers to join a team of locals to change batteries weekly and move the devices to new locations on a regular basis to avoid drivers becoming used to seeing them, which then reduces their effectiveness.

Volunteers will need to be car owner/drivers, be able to carry and move the SIDs which weigh around 10kg.

Milverton Parish council will provide training; tools; Personal Protective Equipment such as 'hi vis' jacket and rotating amber safety light for your vehicle.

Parish clerk Tim Payne said: "Milverton Parish Council have been working with the police and Somerset West and Taunton traffic management to make the village safer.

"The illuminated SIDs are one of a series of measures being put in place to slow the traffic and will be complimentary to the Community Speed Watch teams."
