THE first of 49 affordabe homes being built at a Somerset development have been completed.

Developer Lovell has handed over the first affordable homes to housing provider Abri at its Foxglove Meadows development, in Weston-super-Mare.

At the development, which is located on land adjacent to Woodside Avenue in Hutton, Lovell is providing a variety of 81 properties for open market sale and 49 affordable home units for Abri.

Construction work began at the site in September 2020, and now just a handful of four-bedroom Kipling style homes are remaining for open market sale this year at Foxglove Meadows.

Regional managing director at Lovell, James Duffett, said: “We’re very pleased to be working alongside Abri to provide high quality new homes for local people, and it’s a pleasure to be handing over the first homes for affordable rent and shared ownership at Foxglove Meadows.

“We believe our success at this development boils down to the strong demands for new homes in the area – which we witnessed at our previous development in Weston-super-Mare, Keepers Gate – coupled with the high quality home designs available and their excellent location.

“We’re also extremely proud at the success of our expansion plans within Weston-super-Mare and across the South West, with Foxglove Meadows playing an integral part in our growth, whilst reducing the shortage of homes across the region.”

Stephen Lodge, executive director of development and strategic asset management at Abri, said: “It’s been a pleasure working with Lovell who share our vision of creating quality, affordable homes to help communities to level up.

“Foxglove Meadows will provide much needed affordable homes in Weston-super-Mare and we look forward to working in partnership on future projects, including the 500 homes we’re building together in Weymouth, to help address affordability issues and provide homes in communities where they’re needed most.”
