ANDREW Pritchard has been appointed the new chief executive at Somerset West and Taunton Council.

Councillors approved the appointment at a special full council meeting yesterday evening (Tuesday, November 16).

Mr Pritchard joined the council in January 2020 as director of eternal operations and climate change having worked across a wide range of public sector organisations in various senior roles.

Following his appointment, he said: “Somerset West and Taunton Council is focused on delivering excellent services, improving our communities, and ensuring our residents and businesses are supported.

“We have achieved a lot in the short time since we were established, all thanks to the commitment of staff and members, so it’s a privilege to be asked to lead the council as we enter a period of significant change.”

Leader of the council, Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, said: “Andrew brings a wealth of experience to the role alongside his natural leadership skills.

“There are many challenges to come as we look to the future and I am confident that his enthusiasm and attributes are key to lead the organisation to its next phase.”

Mr Pritchard replaces James Hassett, who left the authority at the start of this month.
