HELEN Hayward who has been a member at Taunton & Pickeridge since she first started playing golf has been appointed as official Somerset Ladies’ vice captain.

Helen started playing golf as a child and has progressed through the club playing as a junior and holding the post of T&P Junior Captain in 2012.

She first represented Somerset in a Junior Girls’ match in 2007 and became Somerset Girls’ captain in 2011 since when Helen has played for both Ladies’ County teams gaining County Colours for the Second and then the First teams.

Ali McGown the Ladies Captain at T&P said: “Helen is a lovely young lady who has maintained a single figure handicap for a number of years and will make a very worthy Somerset Ladies’ Vice Captain. It is an honour for T&P  that Helen has been successful in being appointed to this position.

Saturday’s Prizegiving Scramble was won by Paul Laming, Mike Liddle, Cliff Phur and Dave Stephenson with nett 50, one ahead of Dave Chesney,Dave  Pring, Curtis Edwards and Dan Keitch with 51.

Three teams ended on 52 but after count back it was Matt Bettridge, Chris  Mogg, Peter Bettridge and Josh Hinds who were third, Jonathan West, Andy Turle, Adam Cridlin and Patrick Simpson came fourth while Oliver Yarde, Mike Bird, Ryan Aspinall and Darren Kneeshaw came fifth.

The Remembrance Day Better Ball Stableford on Sunday saw four pairs returning with 45 points, but following count back it was Martin Evans and Neil Aries who were first.

They edged ahead of second placed Dan Keitch and Darren Kneeshaw, while Andy Jones and Philip Palfrey were third and Arthur Sinclair and Ryan Aspinall claimed fourth.

This week 38 ladies played a Betterball competition at the end of which first with a fab 46 points were Georgia Richards and Sue Ensell.

Rosie Spragg and Louise Worth were second with 45 and a countback saw Ali McGown and Ginnie Rhodes take third place ahead of Jan Hill and Berni Hatcher after both ended with 42 points.
