THE agents selling a Wetherspoon pub in Taunton are asking potential buyers to make an offer in the region of £450,000.

The pub company announced last month its intention to sell the freehold of the four-storey Coal Orchard premises, in Bridge Street.

The ground floor of the building, which the agent Savills claim was originally built in the 1930s as a cinema, features a bar servery and tables and seating for around 176 covers, with a beer terrace outside.

The second floor house toilets, the cellar and staff facilities.

Above the pub area over the top two storeys is the well-established Activate Fitness club, which recently secured a new ten-year lease

A Wetherspoon spokesman confirmed last month that the Coal Orchard was on the market but said the company would continue to operate it as a pub until it was sold.

Eddie Gershon added: "There will be no redundancies as a result of any sale.

“The company appreciates that the pub’s loyal staff and customers will be upset with the decision.

“However, on occasion Wetherspoon does put some of its pubs up for sale."

Wetherspoon also owns The Perkin Warbeck pub in East Street, Taunton.
