THREE van drivers from Somerset have been fined and handed penalty points for speeding on roads in Devon and Cornwall.

The three men pleaded guilty to separate but similar offences at Bodmin Magistrates' Court at the end of last week.

Gavin Wayne Cross

On March 10, Gavin Wayne Cross, of Wesley Close, Taunton, drove a Ford Transit van at a speed exceeding 60mph on the A30. 

Cross, 37, was caught breaking the speed limit for a vehicle of that class at Minzies Layby, near a junction with Warleggan and St Neot in Cornwall. 

Court documents do not disclose the speed Cross was travelling at.

He pleaded guilty under a single justice procedure.

He was fined £254 and told to pay a £34 surcharge to fund victim services and costs of £90 by Bodmin Magistrates’ Court on November 20 – giving him a total of £378 to pay.

Cross was also handed six penalty points.

Adam Lee Smith

Adam Lee Smith, of Leeward Close, Bridgwater, exceeded a 60mph speed limit on the A380 near Ideford, Devon, in a Citroen Berlingo van on September 25, 2020.

Smith, 35, was fined £146 and ordered to pay a £34 surcharge and costs of £90 on November 19 after pleading guilty. 

His driving licence was endorsed with three penalty points.

Oliver Robert Steele

Oliver Robert Steele, of Southend Road, Weston-super-Mare, exceeded a 50mph speed limit in a Volkswagen Transporter van on the A361 at Borners Bridge, South Molton, Devon on March 4.

Steele, 29, pleaded guilty under a single justice procedure for breaking the speed limit for a vehicle of that class. 

He was fined £66 and ordered to pay a £34 surcharge to fund victim services by Bodmin Magistrates’ Court on November 19.

Steele was also handed three penalty points.
