THREE cars crashed into fallen trees this morning (November 27) - on neighbouring roads.

Fire crews from Glastonbury, Frome, Shepton Mallet and Wells attended the first incident involving two cars on the B3139, Wells Road near Stratton-on-the-Fosse.

Following this, Glastonbury and Wells crews were redirected to another incident on the B3356, Rock Road, in between Chilcompton and Stratton-on-the-Fosse.

During the first incident, crews confirmed there was a casualty who was medically trapped.

"Crews made the surrounding area safe due to other precarious trees/fallen debris and gaining access to the casualty to allow for a safe and effective rescue," said a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

"Crews worked alongside ambulance paramedics to extricate the casualty, using hydraulic cutting equipment, and they were then conveyed to hospital via land ambulance."

The air ambulance also attended, but was not required for this collision, but was used in the second incident.

The second incident, on the B3356, involved one car that had collided with a fallen tree and a driver was trapped.

Further fire engines were sent from Radstock and Bath to assist the Glastonbury and Wells crews.

Once the casualty was released, they were taken to hospital via air ambulance.

"Due to the size of the tree and position of the vehicle (under the tree) crews were challenged to establish the safest and most effective way to release the casualty," added the spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

"They worked well alongside ambulance paramedics, first stabilising the vehicle and tree with specialist equipment, before creating space within the vehicle in order to safely extricate the driver, using hydraulic cutting equipment.

"The road was closed for some considerable time due to the size of the fallen tree."
