TWO people were taken to hospital after being cut free from a collision between a lorry and a car.

Police were called to the incident on the A303 near Buckland St Mary shortly after 7pm yesterday (Monday, November 29).

After the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service control was made aware of the crash, fire engines from Ilminster, Chard and Taunton were sent to the scene.

A spokesperson for the service said: "Fire appliances from the three stations attended as well as a heavy rescue vehicle, also from Taunton.

"Once on scene, crews confirmed there had been a collision between one heavy goods vehicle and one car.

"Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment and small tools to release two casualties and passed them into the hands of the ambulance.

"These casualties were conveyed to hospital by land ambulance."
