POLICE caught 80 motorists speeding in just ONE HOUR earlier today (Friday, December 3).

Although the roads were wet, a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police's road safety unit said it is the actions of drivers that makes roads dangerous.

They said: "People often mention dangerous roads, but it's our action that makes them so.

"Attitudes need to change.

"The Ilminster bypass often has incidents with the volume of traffic and no barriers.

"This is one of 80 caught in just 1 hour on wet roads."

The spokesperson added that the 'closing speeds' - used to indicate the speed of approach of two colliding vehicles immediately before contact - were as high as 140mph.
