A FLOOD alert has been issued for the West Somerset coast at Porlock Weir.

Locals are being warned of the risk of flooding this evening and tomorrow morning (Tuesday and Wednesday, December 7 and 8) between Gore Point and Hurlstone Point.

An Environment Agency South West spokesperson said: "Spring tides and strong winds may result in waves overtopping sea defences."

The first forecast high water is at 9pm tonight, with waves predicted to reach 6.58 metres above sea level (mAOD), while there is also a risk at 9.15am tomorrow (6.19 mAOD).

The spokesperson added: "Flooding to coastal areas and the most vulnerable properties is possible tonight and tomorrow morning and may occur one to two hours either side of the high tide.

"Areas most at risk are the coastline between Gore Point and Hurlstone Point including Porlock Weir.

"Strong winds are forecast again for Wednesday evening and this flood alert may remain in force for the high tide at 9.45pm."
