A SPOKESPERSON from Wildwood said the restaurant could re-eopn on Sunday (December 12).

He added: "The temporary closure is a precautionary measure.

"We're waiting for clearance from the health and safety officer, which we're expecting on Sunday."

A RESTAURANT in the centre of Taunton has 'temporarily closed until further notice' without prior warning.

The closure has been posted on the website of Wildwood Taunton, which normally opens seven days a week in the Market House building.

Somerset County Gazette:

There is also a notice on the premises informing the public of the closure, which has been caused by two members of staff contracting Covid.

A source at the restaurant messaged a customer who booked a Christmas party for next week to inform him of the reason for the closure.

The message said: "We have been desperately trying to contact all bookings.

"We had 2 staff members with Covid so had to close."

The message added that Wildwood will re-open on Monday (December 13).

Somerset County Gazette:

Another customer was also texted after she posted on Facebook that she had a booking for Saturday and needed to make an amendment.

A third customer said she was in the dark about her booking for eight people on Saturday.

The County Gazette has attempted to call Wildwood in Taunton, but the phone kicks into voicemail.

We have phoned Wildwood head office and were told to e-mail our request for a comment, which we will add to the story when it arrives.
