THE drummer of legendary Somerset band The Wurzels has died after contracting Covid-19.
John Morgan, 80, died yesterday (Friday, December 17) in Gloucester Royal Hospital.
'Morgy' had been in the group for 40 years and was performing with them until a fortnight ago.
Band member Tommy Banner, who lives in Taunton, said: "We can't believe we shan't ever see you behind those drums again."
He wrote on social media: "We thought you were indestructible.
"With your sharp, quirky Forest wit - oh, you were also a great drummer, just like your hero, Charlie Watts.
"We are all in shock, Morgy had the driest of humour and the kindest of hearts and all our thoughts are with his family."
The Wurzels shot to fame in the 1970s with hits such as I Am a Cider Drinker and Combine Harvester.
Mr Banner said the band intends to carry on and that his Mr Morgan will always be remembered and loved.
