SOMERSET West and Taunton Council (SWT) and construction contractor ENGIE are delivering Health and Safety talks at local primary schools to discuss the dangers on building sites.
Many children are injured, and several die each year as a result of accidents on building sites.
The Safe Play at all Times (SPLAAT) talks allow children to think about safer places to play than a building site as well as raise awareness of the dangers on construction sites amongst teachers, pupils, and the wider community.
They are being delivered in partnership with ENGIE who are currently on-site at the North Taunton Woolaway Project completing the new homes in Phase A.
Team members have attended Lyngford Park Primary and Priorswood Primary Schools where the children enjoyed meeting ENGIE’s Health and Safety mascot.
They will be visiting Wellsprings Primary School in the new year and have produced an audio presentation in partnership with the neighbourhood PCSO for The Taunton Academy to share with their students.
Cllr Fran Smith, executive member for housing, said: “The council is investing in housing, building our own stock of affordable properties and amenities to deliver a good quality of life for residents and develop new homes that meet local needs.
“SWT and ENGIE are keen to ensure children have the knowledge to understand that all building sites are ‘high risk’ locations, and I join them in sharing the message that you should never play on a building site.”
