A VETS in Wellington has been granted conditional planning permission for a single-storey extension to its premises.
Planners at Somerset West and Taunton Council approved the application submitted on behalf of the Mount Veterinary Hospital, in Taunton Road, adjacent to the B3187.
It means the practice can add the extra space to house two consultation rooms a reception cum seating area, pharmacy and link to the existing main building.
Bosses plan to construct the building on a grassed area currently used as an examination and exercise area for animals.
In a planning application submitted to Somerset West and Taunton Council, it said: "The additional space created by the proposed extension will enable the practice to continue to accommodate its existing clients whilst maintaining client confidence, with the additional space allowing more circulation space to accommodate social distancing and safer operations moving forward."
The main building, which was constructed from 2016 onwards, features a range of consultation and treatment rooms, along with staff and customer facilities.
An officer report to councillors said: "The proposed extension will create space to enable the practice to continue to accommodate its existing clients whilst maintaining client confidence, with the additional space allowing more circulation space.
"The design is in keeping with the existing building and of a scale and materials that will not harm the visual amenities of the surrounding area.
"As the proposal is to accommodate existing clients, parking requirements remain the same."
