POLICE detained a teenage moped rider in a Taunton park following a foot chase.

Officers spotted the boy riding a light grey electric moped with no lights on the road in East Reach.

A Taunton Neighbourhood Policing team spokesperson said: "Upon seeing officers, the male has then ridden off along the pavement and down Eastbourne Road.

"Officers have followed and after a short foot chase, the rider was detained by Victoria Park.

"The electric moped was seized for no insurance and the male rider dealt with for traffic offences."

The spokesperson said the action follows a number of recent complaints about e-scooter and mopeds being used "anti-socially".

They added that guidance for anyone unsure of the legislation around electric mopeds and e-scooters is available on the Avon and Somerset Police website.

"Anti-social behaviour has a detrimental effect on our communities and we strive to reduce these incidents wherever possible with focused patrols day and night," said the spokesperson.
