THE traffic tailbacks at Silk Mills this morning (Friday, January 7) resulted from a woman who came off her moped and was discovered unconscious.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to Silk Mills Lane, Taunton, just before 7.50am on Friday 7 January.

"An ambulance crew had come across a collision in which a woman had come off her moped and was unconscious.

"The road was closed while emergency services attended the scene and the woman was taken to hospital where thankfully her injuries were assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing."

The road is now cleared and traffic is easing.

 

COMMUTERS driving on a major road into Taunton this morning (Friday, January 7) are being advised of slow moving traffic.

Reports are coming in of "queuing traffic and traffic heavier than normal" on the A358 both ways ay the A3065 Silk Mills Lane.

A motorist told the County Gazette she had rung in to work informing her bosses she would be late in due to the tailbacks.

The County Gazette is checking unconfirmed reports of a road traffic incident.

A spokesperson for Travel Somerset said: "Reports of A3065 Silk Mills Lane both ways partially blocked, queueing traffic due to accident near Silk Mills park and ride."

Hannah Norman has posted on this story on our Facebook page: "Road is shut - road looks passable but police have closed it. Both directions."

Harry Weisner said there has been an "accident" was just before the park and ride if you’re coming from Wellington direction.

He said: "Just cycled down Silk Mills to work, the massive traffic build up is due to an accident.

"There was a wrecked moped, and lot’s of police tape, with a few people getting breathalysed. Multiple cars in the cordoned off area."
