A WILDLIFE sanctuary has raised enough funds to upgrade its facilities and build a new hospital unit to rescue birds of prey.
Sharandys Birds of Prey centre in Chard has reached its target in less than a week and work has already started to build the new facility.
The centre had set up a GoFundMe page to raise the needed £2500 and is now “thrilled” to announce the good news.
Sharon Cox, who runs the centre with her son Matt Banks, said: “We are thrilled. The fact that we raised all the money in less than a week is mind-blowing.
“We are going to get the old building down, which is just a shed, and probably we should see some good progress by the end of the month.”

Sharon said the new hospital unit will help the centre in treating the birds and make it more successful.
She also said how weather and climate change are contributing to the high numbers of birds the centre tries to rescue.
Sharon also added: “It just makes the rehabilitation of the birds more successful. We struggled a bit in the last few years due to Covid and we had so many birds, we are getting more each year, but now the problem is solved.
“There’s not a lot of people out there rescuing birds and also with weather and climate change is getting quite wet and this affects wildlife too.”
The new wooden outbuilding is supplied by Yeovil Fencing.
