Colchester has been named as the most dangerous areas for learner drivers in the UK, according to research from the Bill Plant Driving School.
A Freedom of Information Request (FOI) made to the DVLA and DFT regarding the number of reported road accidents involving drivers with a provisional licence, helped determine this.
Additionally, they compared this data to the total number of provisional licence holders in each area, to work out where learner drivers were most likely to have an accident.
Colchester was found to have 46,424 people who were holders of a provisional licence, and the number of those types of drivers who ended up in road accidents was 117.
Therefore, it had the highest rate of provisional licence holders involved in road accidents per 10,000 at 25.20.
Guildford in Surrey was the second most dangerous with a rate of 20.29 provisional licence holders involved in road accidents per 10,000 and Preston was third with a rate of 15.65.
On the other end of the spectrum Peterborough is the area where learner drivers are the least at risk of a road accident - with 0.57 provisional licence holders involved in road accidents per 10,000.
