Looking back at Taunton Titans 45 game unbeaten run in 2010

However it wasn't that long ago that were playing two divisions lower, in the National League Three South West division.

In 2010, the Titans won the division, and this week we are remembering that impressive season.

Speaking to the County Gazette in 2010, then director of rugby Lee Waddon said when they had officially won the league: "We would love to see the side go unbeaten all season.

"The party went long into the night for the club on Saturday (when they won the league) but now we focus on our remaining games in the season."

Unfortunately Taunton went on to lose those remaining three games, perhaps they partied a bit too hard.

But it didn't matter as they had clinched the National League Three South West title already, with a final 24pts-20 win over Weston-super-Mare.

That win also marked their 45th successive league game unbeaten.

The side also put on a good showing in the Somerset County Cup and the National Three League Cup in 2010.

Overall it was a solid season in the clubs long history and it spearheaded their climb up to where they are now.

Unfortunately Jersey were too good for Taunton in the Champion of Champions semifinal for the league cup and Taunton missed out on a trip to Twickenham but again the side had already had an amazing season.

This promotion was Taunton’s second in four years, and took them to the fourth tier of English rugby

What is also interesting to note, at the very end of the 2010 campaign, in preparation for the 2011 season, Taunton signed a certain club legend.

Taunton confirmed their first two of the 2011 season as experienced fly-half Tony Yapp and winger Jason Luff.

Yapp, 32, whose former clubs included Exeter, Bedford and Worcester, hadexperience at Premiership level and has also represented the Barbarians and England A.

Taunton’s director of rugby Lee Waddon said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the signings. I’ve been monitoring Tony for a

while now and bringing in a player of his experience and quality sends out a great message about where we are heading.

“I’ve had loads of interest from national league players who want to join us and Tony and Jason will be the first of six or seven to come in."

We all now how great that signing turned out to be for Taunton, as Tony Yapp is now the head coach at the club in the National League.
