SOMERSET County Cricket Club is "delighted" to have become an official partner of Somerset Day ahead of this year's celebration of our county.

The cricket club will work closely with the team at Somerset Day ahead of the big day on Thursday, May 11 to help support the community's celebrations.

Other Somerset Day 2022 partners include Thatchers Cider, Somerset Larder, Haynes International Motor Museum, and Godminster Cheese.

This year's Somerset Day campaign started with a Wassail supported by Thatchers and Mendip Morris in the cider maker's orchards in Sandford.

Now, Somerset's first-class cricket club has pledged its support to the campaign ahead of the start of the new cricket season

Gordon Hollin, CEO of Somerset County Cricket Club, said: "We are delighted to be supporting Somerset Day 2022.

"The campaign actively celebrates everything that is special about this great county, and that is something that we are always keen to give our backing to.

"We take great pride in supporting our local community and doing everything that we can to ensure that Somerset continues to be an attractive, vibrant and thriving place to live, work and visit."

Somerset Day founder Nigel Muers-Raby said: "We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Somerset County Cricket Club as official partners.

"They share our passion for Somerset and we look forward to working with them on our 2022 campaign to Fly the Flag for Somerset."

Mr Muers-Raby has encouraged local people to 'turn Somerset into a sea of flags' and asked residents to take part in the Somerset Day 2022 Trail Challenge - an interactive map with details of destinations to help locals and visitors explore the county.

Nominations for the trail opened on February 1 and will remain open until March 18.

The trail itself be open from April 2 until May 11.
