A 13-YEAR-OLD is fundraising to join an expedition that next summer will take him to Cambodia to help the local community.

Noah Rogers, who will be 14 in March, signed up for a Camps International scheme when it “came up as an opportunity at school” and he is now trying to raise £4380 to be able to go to Cambodia for four weeks in the summer of 2023.

Noah attends the Castle School and also plays rugby for the Taunton Typhoons U14 team and the Bears Academy.

He said he is “looking forward a lot” to the experience and cannot wait to be a volunteer and help with a number of community projects.

Other students attending Castle School will also join the scheme.

Noah also added: “It came up as an opportunity at school and I thought it would have been a great opportunity to help the community in Cambodia, gain experience, some confidence, and new skills.

“We have been told we are going to build houses, medical centres, school kitchens, and we will also look after the environment by planting trees.

“I am looking forward to it a lot and I am very excited to do it, it sounds like an amazing experience.”

Noah is currently looking for sponsors to boost his fundraiser. He said he will also join bake sales and car washing events to raise funds.

He added: “We’ve been emailing companies for sponsorships but we will also do bake sales and car washing to raise funds.”

Noah’s mum, Bek Tainton, despite an initial concern about the costs, said the experience would do his son “a lot of good”.

She said: “Camps International did a presentation at the school last week and explained how to raise money and Noah signed up.

“He brought a leaflet and I put it straight in the bin because of the costs, I know that fundraising for that amount is difficult.

“I went to a meeting and they talked about the project and explained how good it was for some people and I thought that doing something like this would do him a lot of good.

“I am actually very proud of him and very proud of what he is doing. He is determined to do it.”

Noah has also set up an online fundraising page. Anyone who wishes to help can do so by visiting https://gofund.me/9f624c5e The 13-year-old also said that if he raises more than he needs for the trip, he will donate the rest, splitting it between The Camps Foundation (the charity behind Camps International) and The Beacon Centre in Taunton, where his mum recently had treatment.
