FIVE pupils from King’s College, Taunton, are involved with the Exeter City Football Club Academy and attend training sessions at the Cliff Hill Training Ground at Clyst St Mary.

Sixteen year olds Georgina H who is a right winger and defender Alex H both travel to the Exeter Academy one evening a week to attend training, while striker Matthaus S, goal keeper Lucan DB and Cyrus L, who is in the Lower Sixth Form have attended training sessions over the last fortnight.

James Ward, the Head of Football at King’s said: “It’s a great achievement for these young footballers to have their talents recognised by Exeter City FC and be invited to take part in Academy sessions. Regardless of how they may fair in the future, the experience is invaluable for them.”

“Football has grown significantly in the last few years at King’s College, and with the First team are awaiting the announcement of their opponents in the semi final of the area cup, so it’s an exciting time for the players.”

He added: “The growth of football at the School has been extremely pleasing and we field five teams twice a week. The boys do a fabulous job in representing themselves and Kings College.“

Phil Lewis the Director of Sport said: "We have worked really hard on the football programme and James has done a brilliant job developing the coaching and the experience for the pupils. The pupils absolutely love playing sport here, and I am so pleased to see football thriving."
