A SCHOOL near Bridgwater has been rated 'good' in their latest Ofsted inspection.

Wembdon St George's Church School in Wembdon had their first inspection in January, with inspectors noting the school is going from 'strength to strength with a strong culture for learning'.

The predecessor school, called Wembdon St George's Church of England Primary School, was inspected in January 2017, and was then placed into special measures.

And so the school, in Brantwood Road, joined the Bath and Wells Academies Trust in September 2017.

Now, it has nearly 350 pupils.

Headteacher of the primary school, Clare Wallace, was appointed in early 2020.

In his report, lead inspector Stewart Gale said: “Following the appointment of the current headteacher, the school has gone from strength to strength.

“Senior leaders, governors and trustees work together effectively. They understand the school’s strengths and weaknesses, which helps them to secure improvements.

“Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), learn through a well-planned and effective curriculum.”

The report also said:

  • Pupils conduct themselves well
  • Pupils feel a strong connection to the schools vision and principles
  • School's Christian values are central to building character and promoting values
  • Pupils are kind and keen to make the school a better place

Ms Wallace thanked those who had played a part in the 'journey of improvement' over the past two years.

“This inspection is the culmination of a lot of work by a lot of people and we are all delighted that Ofsted has recognised the considerable changes we have implemented in recent years, despite operating through the difficulties of the pandemic," she added.

“We have achieved this by working closely with parents, governors, the Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust team and outside partners to deliver what we think is a first class experience for all our children, both academically and pastorally.

“A school is so much more than the staff and buildings, it is the children and families who choose it to be a part of their lives. The success of any school is dependent on staff and families working together to ensure that the children who occupy it, with their smiles and energy, have the best possible educational experiences.”

“Of course we will not stop here and we are motivated to continue to strive to take this wonderful school on an exciting journey in the next few years.”
