A REFEREE claims to have had his kit urinated and spat on after officiating a feisty match in Taunton on Sunday in which two players were sent off.

The ref took to social media to describe what allegedly happened to him after the game in the Somerset Sunday League.

He initially posted in Ref Support UK – a registered charity dedicated to independent training, support & development of referees. The group then posted about the incident on his behalf.

He claims the initial sending off was met with hostility by the player’s teammates which led to a further red being brandished.

After the game he alleges that a player came into his dressing room and urinated on his kit and bag and spat on his tracksuit.

A spokesman for the Somerset FA said: “We have received a report regarding alleged incidents towards a referee at a match involving Trinity Rangers at Priorswood Playing Field on Sunday.

“We are investigating the allegations after which we will reserve the right to issue charges if the investigation suggest that we should do so.

“Given this is a live investigation we will not comment directly on these allegations further, although of course Somerset FA deplore any poor behaviour directed at match officials in any situation.

“We would urge everyone to avoid comment or speculation on social media that may prejudice that investigation and possible charges that may arise.

“In the interim the Referee Development Officer and DSO are in contact with the match referee and is offering support to him.”
