TAUNTON residents have responded positively to the news that the Toby Carvery near junction 25 is set to become a Miller & Carter Steakhouse.
The site has historically been known as the Blackbrook Tavern and is located in Ilminster Road, Ruishton.
Toby Carvery and Miller & Carter are owned by Mitchells and Butlers, a Birmingham-based company that operates brands including All Bar One, Harvester, and Stonehouse Pizza and Carvery.
A planning application to put up new signage outside the pub to reflect the changes has been submitted to Somerset West and Taunton Council.
The Miller & Carter Steakhouse website says: “Whether you're looking to celebrate with friends, want a quality dinner out with the kids, or just fancy a bit of a treat after a tough week, our steakhouses mean great food, expertly cooked, and served by friendly staff.”
The brand was awarded the ‘Masters of Steak’ accreditation by the Craft Guild of Chefs in 2019.
The nearest Miller & Carter restaurants to Taunton are in Exeter and Weston-super-Mare.
Foodies from Taunton and the surrounding area have responded positively to the news on social media.
After the County Gazette shared its article with the news on Facebook, Sarah Shelley commented: “Thank goodness, a Miller & Carter at last!
“Our nearest currently is Exeter so fabulous news there is one more local.
“Great restaurants serving great food, can't wait.”

Cheryl Oxley believes this “could turn out to be a good move” with the right chefs and management.
“As for prices, yes some of their steaks can be quite pricey, however they do offer good lower-price meals as well,” added Cheryl.
Esther Bishop said: “Wow - Taunton is going to have a Miller & Carter! About time!”
In the comments underneath the article on the County Gazette website, Quantock Voice of Reason said: “Visited M&C once and very impressed.
“Not cheap but certainly one of the best steaks I've had.”
Another commenter, Adapt with the Times, said: “Taunton needs more of this to encourage folk to stay.”
However, some locals will be sad to see the existing Toby Carvery go.
Tony Sutcliffe said on Facebook: “The Miller & Carter brand is very upmarket. Their prices reflect that, although I wouldn't say that it's such good value for money.
“It would be a shame to lose the Toby Carvery, extremely good value for money.”
