UNTIL a few years ago I had zero interest in anything sport related. I was busy with a career and bringing up my family. My husband used to take the children to Bristol City or Taunton Town. When our son was little, he was actually a really good player!

Since I started my business, I have sponsored a player at Taunton Titans Rugby at Taunton RFC. Recently I have joined Somerset County Cricket Club and am enjoying learning the rules and etiquette! I am very much looking forward to all the matches this season.

I used to live down the road from Taunton Town Football Club. “Up The Peacocks!”. Have you heard how well they are doing at the moment! The Peacocks are one game away from winning the Southern League Premier South title after beating Tiverton Town 1-0 on Monday! I had a quick chat with Kev Sturmey who is the Chairman, CEO & Head Groundsman of the club. He is so excited about how well they are doing and how close they are to being promoted to the next league up which is National League South. Kev and the team are very keen to get more families to go to the football club and build on their impressive community partnerships.

This Saturday they are arranging for lots of extra catering and loos! It would be fabulous to see the ground FULL of enthusiastic local people and families. As the County Town for Somerset, we should feel so proud of our football club. This is the highest in the leagues they have ever been. They deserve all the support this Saturday – Visit their website for more details. Gates open at 12 noon; and the match kicks off at 3pm.

Please come down to the Cygnet Healthcare Stadium and support your local club as that can make all the difference!

Supporting your favourite sports clubs is actually very good for your mental health too. Cheering on your favourite sports team may provide a way to escape your daily stresses of life or work. Watching a game with other diehard fans creates a cultural connection and a sense of belonging to an exclusive crowd.

Let us hope that at the end of Saturday’s match we can all be “AS PROUD AS PEACOCKS!”

See you again in two weeks! Until then – Stay Safe and Be Kind.
