WITH the Somerset batting once again coming up short when required to deliver in the second innings against Surrey at the weekend, both Roelof van der Merwe and Kasey Aldridge issued timely reminders to the selectors ahead of the next County Championship match against Warwickshire on Thursday, writes Richard Walsh.

Playing in the Second XI Championship match against Nottinghamshire that began at Taunton Vale on Monday, following the dismissals of the top five that included, Ben Green, Lewis Goldsworthy, George Bartlett and Will Smeed, the pair joined forces with the score 101 for five in the 33rd over.

Between them the sixth wicket pairing set about adding 160 runs together in 42.3 overs before Aldridge was out for 80 which came from 133 deliveries and included eight 4s from his stay of almost two and a half hours.

Van der Merwe remained until the score had moved onto 308 by which time he had scored 115 off 173 balls with 12 fours and one six from his stay of three hours and 43 minutes.
